A fire broke out overnight from Friday to Saturday in a building located in rue Théodore Verhaegen in Saint-Gilles, Brussels firefighters said on Saturday morning.
Firefighters were alerted around 5:30 a.m. A significant release of smoke was declared in the stairwell of the five-storey building. All the occupants, regarding fifteen people, were taken care of on the spot by the emergency services. One of them was taken to hospital for mild smoke poisoning. A firefighter was also injured during the operation. He was taken to hospital.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation.
