A major fire in an old warehouse containing in particular insulation broke out on Tuesday morning around 10:10 a.m. at rue des Pays-Bas in Montignies-sur-Sambre, firefighters from the Hainaut-East rescue zone said. Due to the release of smoke, the doors and windows of neighboring dwellings and located in Châtelet must remain closed.
The Hainaut-Est rescue zone deployed two full departures to the scene of the disaster. An old warehouse containing in particular insulation is affected by the flames. “There are two pumpers, two ladders and three cisterns. We will also deploy a high-power pump in the nearby Sambre for the water supply,” said firefighter spokesman Michel Méan.
No injuries are to be deplored for the moment, while the firefighters have still not been able to invest inside the warehouse. “For the moment, the fire is contained so it cannot spread to other buildings, but it is still smoking a lot. It has also been asked to nearby residents and also to those in Châtelet, because of the wind, to stay locked up at home with doors and windows closed”, concluded the rescue zone.
