A major fire broke out this Monday morning in Sweden, in the Gothenburg region. The water slide of a giant amusement park caught fire, causing impressive balls of flame. Twelve people were slightly injured, according to authorities.
The flames ravaged the facility, causing several fireballs, before three explosions rang out. A large column of black smoke rose this Monday, February 12 in the morning, above Sweden’s largest amusement park. Located in Gothenburg, in the west of the country, Liseberg Park was hit by a major fire, causing 12 minor injuries, according to authorities.

A dangerous situation, which prompted the police to evacuate a hotel and adjacent offices at the Liseberg amusement park, located in the center of Gothenburg. This unpredictability of the fire is notably linked to the presence of a lot of plastic in the structure, as highlighted by the local press, and which caused thick black smoke. On site, the emergency services of the region therefore asked people in the surrounding area “to stay indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation”.

“A large fire broke out at the Liseberg Oceana water park. The fire started in one of the water attractions outside the building and then spread throughout the building”, Liseberg said in a press release. It is too early to comment on a possible criminal origin of the disaster and to give an assessment of the damage, the police said in their press release. The water park is part of an amusement park expansion project and was expected to open later in 2024.
