Spain – Thousands of people demonstrated in Madrid and other Spanish cities, carrying Palestinian flags, chanting slogans of solidarity with the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and calling for a ceasefire.
Large-scale pro-Palestinian protests began yesterday, Saturday, in more than forty cities in Spain, including the capital, Madrid, and the demonstrations continue until Monday.
Thousands of people came out at six in the evening, in Madrid, as well as in Girona, Granada, Pamplona, Alicante and Cádiz. Santander, Arrecife and Murcia.
The demonstration in Madrid, in which several thousand people participated, began next to the Atocha train station, the historical symbol of the city, and from there the crowds headed towards one of Sol’s central squares and in front of the headquarters of the local government.
One of the demonstrators said: “After a year of genocide in Palestine and 76 years of Israeli colonialism, and during a period of intensification of Israeli attacks in Lebanon, we demand freedom for the Palestinian people and a ceasefire in the region.”
The main demands of the demonstrators were to call for an end to violence in the Middle East. They also called on the international community to take the necessary measures and ensure the protection of the rights of Palestinians.
The protests, which were organized under the slogan “Stop genocide in Palestine, stop the arms trade and relations with Israel,” come within the framework of the tenth national mobilization in support of Palestine. Demonstrations are scheduled to begin on Sunday, starting at noon, in Barcelona, Valencia, Cordoba, Malaga, Gijon and other cities. Israel continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to stop it immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Health in Gaza published a new toll of victims of the ongoing Israeli bombing of the Strip, where the number of dead reached 41,825, and 96,910 injured.
