This Friday followingnoon, more than 40,000 supporters of candidate Federico Gutiérrez filled the Plaza de Banderas in Cúcuta. It was an unprecedented demonstration of support in this electoral contest and with it he began the final stretch of his campaign ahead of the first round.
The images, taken from the air with a drone, show the sea of people who accompanied the Team for Colombia candidate. Adherents came from neighboring municipalities, of all ages, and from various political and social sectors.
The Liberal Party, which gave Gutiérrez its official backing, posted the video of the crowd that came to support the candidate on social media. He also took the opportunity to launch a hint at the rival campaign, led by Gustavo Petro.
“Images without lying angle or Photoshop, the next president of Colombia”, trilled the official account of the party.
He took photos with the public and, during his presentation, a boy from the region came up on stage and presented the candidate with a Cúcuta Deportivo shirt. He put it on and continued exposing his proposals.
He spoke regarding Venezuela, an essential topic for candidates visiting the territory. In his speech, the candidate announced that, as of the first day of his government, he would reactivate the border commercially. However, he stressed that he will not recognize the regime of Nicolás Maduro.
