Disclosure of live-fire training to the media
Taiwan launched a large-scale artillery fire drill in response to China’s siege military exercise.
According to the Taiwan Central News Agency on the 9th, the Taiwanese military began live-fire training of artillery units at the coastal training ground in southern Pingtung County on the same day.
On the first day of training, 38 155mm howitzers fired shells at targets above the sea.
The drill was conducted in a way that volleys were fired by six howitzers at a time according to the firing command signal.
38 howitzers were deployed over a 1km stretch of the training ground beach.
On the 11th, 40 155mm howitzers will be trained in the same way, and a total of 78 155mm howitzers will be mobilized for the two-day training.
The drill is a strong response to the unprecedented large-scale armed protests conducted by the Chinese military in recent years.
After the Chinese military’s ‘Taiwan attack simulation drill’, which took place on the 4th and 7th, including the launch of a ballistic missile passing over the island of Taiwan on the 4th, it was decided that the training would be timed to avoid further escalation of tension while not being withdrawn from China’s military pressure. It is evaluated as sending the message.
The Taiwanese military explained that this training area does not overlap with the training area established by the Chinese military around Taiwan on the 4th and 7th.
Artillery forces such as howitzers and mortar units play a key role in preventing the People’s Liberation Army from invading Taiwan in case of emergency.
The Korean Central News Agency said the exercise was focused on deterring the enemy at sea.
The Taiwanese military released this artillery training scene to the local media and the general public as if to show off their will to defend themselves once morest the Chinese military threat inside and outside.
Separately from this exercise, the Taiwanese military is planning to conduct joint live-fire drills in the public space starting from the 5th of next month, using AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters, tanks, and armored vehicles.
