Snow piled up over Saturday night and early Sunday morning, and preliminary snowfall totals for Massachusetts have already come to the National Weather Service — even as snow continues to fall.

In a 3:30 a.m. message to Xformerly known as Twitter, the National Weather Service’s Norton office wrote Sunday that it had a preliminary assessment of how much snow had fallen on the region.

“Keep the reports coming,” the Weather Service wrote.

As of 7 a.m., several communities had reported 8 inches or more had fallen.

Sterling in Worcester County had the highest reported total at that point in the morning, with 9.1 inches. Lunenburg, Westborough, Charlton and Grafton — all in Worcester County — also all reported 8 inches or more Sunday morning.

Other communities reporting 8 inches or more include North Andover and Haverhill in Essex County; Westfield in Hampden County; Westhampton in Hampshire County; and Pepperell in Middlesex County.

A notable community for the region outside Massachusetts, also reporting more than 8 inches, is Windsor Locks, Conn., home of Bradley International Airport, which recorded 8.2 inches of snow as of 7 a.m. Sunday.
