Massa launched wine dollar since April for wine sales to the world

The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, announced that there will be a special dollar to liquidate wine exports. The objective of the “wine dollar”, which will be in force from April 1, will be to “recover export competitiveness and markets”, and that both the State and the private sector can “contribute to consolidate Argentina’s reserves”, he affirmed.

The presentation was in the framework of a breakfast organized by the Argentine Wine Corporation (Coviar) as a kick-off for the Harvest, in the province of Mendoza.

According to the head of the Economy portfolio, wine production had a large drop in its harvest, “of 21%” compared to last season “which had been scarce, and 34% below average.” In this sense, he announced that support for producers suffering from climate problems will be expanded “with more than 583 million pesos.”

Massa said that an agreement with the United States government to “lift the restrictions on the must” that is exported from Argentina is “up for signature”; a line of credit for harvesting and hauling of 10 billion pesos that is added to the line of 3 billion from the last Harvest, with a deferred payment of 300 days; and the implementation of Proviar II, an agreement for which the IDB has already approved a financing of 40 million dollars. To this amount will be added a national contribution of 10 million dollars that will be allocated to innovation projects and support for the commercialization of small and medium-sized wine companies.

The minister also recalled the signing of an agreement with Coviar to finance the network of weather stations, in order to “anticipate” frequent climate changes. He stressed that the inclement weather took away productive areas and that now there are “two thousand fewer vineyards throughout the country.”

On the other hand, he announced that on March 9 the envelopes for the tender for the work to Modernize the Rama Chimba Irrigation System will be opened, with an estimated investment of 1,300 million pesos. He also stressed that “the State has to intervene in favor of those who suffer from climate problems.”

In addition, he pointed out that the “harvest credit program will be carried out, with a credit line of 10 billion pesos with a subsidized rate.”
