Mass production of new AirTag would have been postponed to 2025

The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo brought more firewood to heat the bonfire of buzz around a possible second generation of AirTag. Contrary to some of his own predictions, he has now said that mass production of the next model would have been delayed until 2025.

Unlike how he does it, this time, the analyst did not specify where this information came from. Furthermore, Kuo also did not disclose the improvements (and practices) expected for the new tracker model.

Forecast Update:
The mass production schedule for “AirTag 2” has been postponed to 2025.

Last time Kuo wrote about “AirTag 2,” he said the trackers should be mass-produced by the end of 2024 and could be integrated into the spatial computing ecosystem starting with the Apple Vision Pro.

It is worth noting that, since the tracker’s launch in April 2021, its hardware has remained unchanged, while software updates have brought improvements to inhibit stalking, for example.

It is not new, after all, that Kuo writes about a new generation of AirTag. In June last year, he initially predicted that new trackers could be developed. With the success of the first generation, this idea gained strength.

With this possible postponement of mass production, we can only try to find out when the new models should hit the shelves. Until that happens, however, it will still take a while — that is, if the rumors are correct.
