Mass Poisoning at Shawarma I Want Cafe in Bratsk: Investigative Committee Reports Over 60 Victims

The owner of a cafe in Bratsk was detained, in which there was a mass poisoning with shawarma. The number of victims exceeded 60 people, half of whom are in the hospital, the Investigative Committee for the Irkutsk Region reports on June 15.

According to the UK, 62 people sought medical help with signs of poisoning, 29 of them were hospitalized, including 5 children. They all ate at the Shawarma I Want fast food cafe.

A criminal case has been opened Part 1 Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (production, storage, marketing of products that do not meet safety requirements).

Experts took samples from food, kitchen appliances and appliances. Grill ovens were seized by investigators. All employees of the cafe were sent for bacteriological examination.

Rospotrebnadzor specialists revealed violations of the requirements of sanitary legislation. The technological process of cooking is violated, as well as the conditions for storing food, food raw materials. There are also questions regarding the personal hygiene of workers.

How report local media, this is not the first case of mass illness in Bratsk following visiting this particular cafe. In 2019, 13 people were poisoned in the same room, but then the institution had a different name.
