Mass Invasion: Grasshoppers Overrun Town in Nevada, Causing Chaos and Disruption

Millions of Mormon grasshoppers have invaded a small town in the US state of Nevada, covering homes and roads, and even making it difficult to get to a hospital.

The phenomenon, which is not abnormal according to the experts, has been going on for days and disconcerts the 20,600 inhabitants of Elko.

“We feel downright invaded,” said Colette Reynolds, a resident, at the microphone of CBS. “When you’re inside the house, it’s like it’s raining.”

“The whole road is crawling and it gives goosebumps. It’s so disgusting,” said another resident, Stephanie Garrett.

These insects have even complicated access to emergencies.

“To just get patients to the hospital, we had to put people outside with leaf blowers, with brooms,” Steve Burrows of Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital told local KSL TV.

“At one point, we even had to turn a tractor into a snowplow to push the piles of grasshoppers.”

Nevada Department of Agriculture entomologist Jeff Knight said such locust swarms weren’t unusual in the area, just more noticeable as wild areas become occupied by humans.

Much to the chagrin of the people of Elko, there are few options to get rid of such a swarm.

“There is the pesticide option if people want to get involved in it (…) and there is the option to tolerate (the passage of insects, editor’s note), and they will probably end up getting by. go”, detailed Jeff Knight on CBS.
