Mass Effect 5: BioWare announces that development has started! | Xbox One

The good news of the day comes to us from the Canadians of BioWare. The development studio, to which we owe the Baldur’s Gate, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises, spoke through a blog post regarding the progress of the projects in development and to come. Where we now learn that the next Mass Effect is being created!

An expected episode

Present briefly to the public at the Game Awards in December 2020, the next episode of the Mass Effect saga has, for the moment, been discreet. The first adventures of Commander Shepard, originally released on Xbox 360 in 2007, left their mark on a whole generation of gamers. Since then, any announcement concerning the franchise has been scrutinized and awaited. The latter will be no exception.

If we already knew that the game would be developed under Unreal Engine 5, the BioWare studio had declared through its new General Manager, Gary McKay, that the saga sought to “regain the confidence of the players” following an episode Mass Effect Andromeda less well received. There is therefore a real ambition to return to the sources of the series for this future episode.

In a post on the official blog from BioWare, rather focused on some of the developers of the next Dragon Age, the conclusion does not forget the other projects in progress within the studio. As work continues on the remake of Star Wars : Knights of the Old RepublicMass Effect is officially announced as one of the games whose development has started at BioWare.

We are also working on Dragon Age and more. Our team continues to work on Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ and its recent expansion Legacy of the Sith, so be sure to check the SWTOR website for more details on what’s to come! There’s also the next game in the Mass Effect™ universe, which is now in early development. It’ll be a while before we can talk more regarding it, but we can’t wait to show you what we’re working on!

The teams at BioWare are therefore actively at work, through several colossal projects. Regarding Mass Effect, this news will delight fans of the space saga and it indicates that we will be able to see more when the developers are ready to share more information.
