How does each drive mode feel?

The transmission is an 8-speed DCT. At the start, he performed accelerator work more carefully than usual, but there were no sudden movements and he started running smoothly. There was no nervousness, and the MC20 welcomed the driver as if to wrap it up.

The brakes are made of carbon and react accurately to the pedal effort. It has a sharp effect but good controllability, suitable for a high-power sports car with 6 pistons in the front and 4 pistons in the rear. Of course, this brake really shines at ultra-high speeds. The tires are Bridgestone “Potenza Sports” (front: 245/35ZR20, rear: 305/30ZR20), and MC20 tires are used.

The GT selected in the drive mode covers a wide band from urban areas to suburban roads. In this mode, the convergence of vertical movement is loose, and the impression is that the soft spring and shock absorber are not well matched. However, since the damping force was set to middle in the initial setting, there is a high possibility that the basics can be changed by digging deeper into the setting hierarchy.

It is a mysterious setting that softens the reduction force when it is set to SPORT. It is accompanied by a thumping shock, but it seems to be usable on a daily basis even in this mode. Also, when CORSA is set, the damping force returns to middle, so the accelerator gain and shift control are different.

On highways, depending on the shape of the road surface due to the thick tires, the steering wheel is gripped more firmly than usual. However, it seems that Maserati is able to relax rather than overreact. At 8th gear 100km/h, the engine speed is about 1500rpm. The cockpit is surprisingly quiet with a low-pitched engine.

If you look again from the cockpit, the front view is bright with a midship-like slant nose from the left and right fender peaks (a height that does not bother you). Instead, there is almost no front trunk. By the way, the trunk at the rear end traps heat, so it seems that clothes will be loaded.

The cockpit has a simple but elegant design, and the use of leather is impeccable. I appreciate that the rear view mirror is a camera. It is essential for MC20 where rear visibility is limited.

Now, when you step on the accelerator, you will see a strong acceleration force along with a low exhaust note. It doesn’t feel like your body is pushed into the seat like a BEV (battery electric vehicle). And even at high revs, engine vibration is well suppressed.

The 8-speed DCT continues to accelerate continuously with light shocks. However, up to 100km / h is so fast, and stepping on the accelerator any further is accompanied by a sense of guilt. You can enjoy the excitement even in the D range, but the manual shift using the paddles suits the MC20. The engine is torquey and flexible, and it works well from any rev range. A wide torque band makes it easy to run a super sports car, and it’s fun to change gears yourself.

The dry-sump V6 turbo is mounted low to reduce the moment of inertia in corners. However, you can’t know the true intentions of MC20 with just Choinori. For the time being, at the first meeting, it bends so that it sticks to the road surface. Although the steering gear ratio is small, the steering force is light. And there are very few kickbacks. The accuracy of the information brought the distance closer at once.

When the drive mode is set to CORSA, the gain of the accelerator becomes even higher, the vertical movement is well suppressed, and the roll and stability are outstanding. The high followability even when turning corners is exactly the real pleasure of a sports car. As expected, the ride is stiff, but the car does not bounce, and the posture fits perfectly. When I changed to SPORT, it was an interesting setting because it was in a mode that would lightly absorb the shock from the road surface.

From city areas to winding roads to highways, it shared the journey with the MC20. It was a day where I could fully enjoy a mature super sports car.
