MASEN and NTPC Ltd sign a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening Morocco’s capacities in the field of renewable energies – VivAfrik

With the aim of strengthening Morocco’s capacities in the field of renewable energies and pooling the experience and expertise of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) and the Indian electricity production company NTPC Limited, particularly in the field of research and development, the two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of renewable energies.

Indeed, thanks to the efforts of the government and national renewable energy agencies, Morocco has been able to considerably diversify its energy mix in recent years. The country has even developed solid expertise in this area.

It is also an important step towards the goal of both parties to explore joint opportunities for the development of renewable energy projects in Africa.

This memorandum is initialed within the framework of the strengthening of the Indo-African partnership on the sidelines of the 17th edition of “CII-Exim Bank Conclave on India-Africa Growth Partnership”. The event aims to strengthen Indian investment in Africa, particularly in the field of energy.

Created in 2010, MASEN is responsible for piloting renewable energies in Morocco. Through its projects, the Agency contributes to the national objective of reaching +52% share of renewable energy in the Moroccan electricity mix by 2030.

At the end of 2021, 4,109 Megawatts (MW) were in operation in wind, hydro and solar power. The MASEN Group places the development of renewable resources at the heart of its strategy, to create an inexhaustible force for economic, social and environmental development for Morocco and beyond.

In the context of the current energy crisis, the African continent offers several opportunities that the great economic and demographic powers of the world want to seize. For MASEN, this signature is yet another affirmation of its leading role in the promotion of renewable energies in Morocco. Indeed, through its projects and partnerships, the agency actively contributes to achieving the national objective in terms of increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix.

It should be recalled that at the beginning of July 2022, MASEN launched a call for tenders for the development of photovoltaic solar power plants for the Noor Atlas solar program, with an overall capacity of 258 MW.
