A Frederick County man won $2 million on a Maryland lottery ticket he bought at a Mount Airy liquor store. Earlier that day, the player had won $500.
The 64-year-old self-employed player plans to use his winnings to start the early retirement process, according to a Maryland Lottery news release. The winner also plans to share some of his winnings with his family.
The Maryland Lottery did not release the identity of the winner. And it is that in Maryland, the winners can choose to remain anonymous.
“I was a bit surprised. This really came at the right time,” the winner said, according to the statement.
The press release described the winner as an avid lottery player from eastern Frederick County. In the past, he has also won prizes of $5,000 and $10,000.but none had been as high as this $2 million dollar one.
The day he won, the man bought some instant tickets, won $500 on them, and then went to a golf course to play a little before buying more tickets.
The $2 million ticket cost $30 and was sold at the Cork ‘N’ Bottle store at 4305 Ridge Road in Mount Airy.
The local will receive $2 thousand dollars of commission only for the sale.
Tickets for the $2 million ‘Gold Rush’ Scratch-Off game went on sale in February. There are still three jackpots remaining, plus six $50,000 prizes that remain unclaimed, The Frederick News Post reported.
