Marwan Khoury does not feel fully affiliated with the art world today.. Is he retiring?

It was stated in Asharq Al-Awsat:

The artist Marwan Khoury criticized the daily presence of artists on the pages of social networking sites, and considered it completely unhealthy.

He explained that the obsession with searching for a rhythm that would be a trend or a hashtag on social media dominates the minds of song makers “during the writing process, and may increase the chances of the work spreading.” On the other hand, he did not lose hope in the “Sami’a” of the new generation, for they exist even if their number decreased, adding that “they still hear the song as an emotional state and are affected by melody and speech, and do not deal with it as a mere trend or dance.”

Marwan Khoury does not deny that he does not feel “fully belonging to the artistic scene as in the past,” but considers this temporary, “music is transformative, and what is happening now is temporary, and will not create a permanent artistic state.” He adds: “I never quit, and what comes from work will confirm that. Music is my life and I still have a lot to say. I learned adaptation and adaptation from adults who preceded me and inspired me, such as the musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab, who mastered keeping pace with artistic waves and excelled in the game of evolution, from the thirties of the last century until the eighties.”

love after parting

He said, “Since I was a child, I was afraid of separation. I spent my life waiting for calamity, and when it came and took my mother, I knew that I had lost happiness and safety forever.”

Concerning the house that mother Nassima decorated with peace and happiness, he said: “Some people thought that I had an emotional state since childhood, and that this was the reason for my sad songs, but on the contrary. I was overprotected and had a good childhood, which terrified me of losing my mother. No one can compensate for what she took with her departure.”

Even as a musician, Marwan Khoury is helpless in the face of separation, as he has not yet been able to compose a song for his mother, who is permeating all his cells, according to his description. He admits: “I didn’t believe he was leaving yet, but something changed in the core. Something inside me is gone and won’t come back… Probably it’s the feeling of safety.”
