Ryan Coogler, director of Black Pantheris in the news following being the victim of a curious confusion. The filmmaker visited a Bank of America agency in Atlanta, where he is filming the sequel to the Marvel Studios film, and ended up being arrested following being mistaken for a thief.
According to TMZ, the filmmaker went for a deal wearing a hat, sunglasses and a mask. He apparently passed a note to the bank teller that read, “I am not a bank robber.I want to withdraw $12,000 cash from my account. Please count the money elsewhere, I would like to be discreet.« .
The worker thought she was the victim of a theft, so she alerted her boss and called the police. When the authorities arrived they detained two people who were waiting for Coogler in a car, and then arrested the manager..
After an investigation, the police quickly determined that it was a mistake. As TMZ reports, when the worker tried to complete the transaction on her computer, an alert went off and she notified authorities. The publication notes that the filmmaker took what happened very badly and “asked for the badge numbers of the officers involved when he was released…”.« .
“This should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me, fixed the issue to my satisfaction, and we moved on,” Coogler confirmed to Variety. The director is now immersed in the filming of Black Panther : Wakanda Foreverthe continuation of the saga of Marvel Studios which will have to take care of the replacement of the hero following the death of its main character, Chadwick Boseman. The film will be in cinemas on November 2022.
