Inter Milan, the club’s and Italian champions, have been told by young striker Lautaro Martinez not to play in Argentina’s remaining World Cup qualifiers. Inter have demanded that he not join the Argentina squad for this month’s qualifiers.
Inter Milan officials say the remaining matches are unimportant for Argentina, who have already qualified for the World Cup, but that Inter have crucial matches in March-April, so the club need more of the player’s services.
The second leg of next week’s Champions League football pre-quarterfinal is all about Inter. The match is against English Premier League giants Liverpool. Inter, who lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the first quarter, must win by three goals to maintain their Champions League hopes.
In addition, Inter will play Serie A against Torino, Fiorentina and Juventus in March-April. All of these matches are crucial for Inter, who are battling to retain the title. They are currently third in the league.
Argentina, meanwhile, will play against Venezuela and Ecuador. Argentina will face Venezuela at home on March 26 and Ecuador on March 30 at the away ground. In the qualifying round, Argentina qualified for the World Cup with 35 points from 15 matches with 10 wins and five draws.
