The big boss of the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) is leaving his post to take control of the Via Rail subsidiary responsible for the high frequency train (TGF) site between Quebec and Toronto.
Martin Imbleau will change position on September 8, confirmed Via TGF and APM on Monday. The APM added that it would try to find a new chief executive officer as soon as possible.
The changing of the guard comes at a time when federal entities are carrying out major infrastructure projects.
The chairman of Via TGF’s board of directors, Robert Prichard, believes that Mr. Imbleau is “the person we need” to carry out the rail project. “Given his knowledge of the Corridor’s partners, particularly in and around Montreal, Martin brings experience and a valuable overview to the project,” he comments.
However, the MPA is losing its leader at a time when uncertainty hangs over its port project in Contrecoeur on the South Shore of Montreal, which was to come into service in 2027.
The project, whose cost was to reach a maximum of $950 million, might cost $1.4 billion, according to two sources cited by the Globe and Mail in April. A source who might not be identified had also confirmed this figure to The Canadian Press.
