– After I met Durek, the criticism has doubled. I didn’t realize there were so many levels of racism until I met him, the microaggressions and the perception that because he’s black, he can’t be trusted. The interview was published on Sunday afternoon, a short week before the wedding in Geiranger. On Wednesday, it became known that the British weekly Hello Magazine has been given the exclusive rights to both the wedding and the wedding party.
– I know how it feels to be met with public criticism, says Märtha Louise.
Durek Verrett tells the magazine that he was initially hurt by the criticism, and that he believes that his work has been portrayed incorrectly in the media.
– Märtha and I have been through many storms, but now we feel that we can handle everything together. It has made us stronger, he says.
Looking forward to the wedding
Märtha says in the interview that she had actually decided not to marry again after her divorce from Ari Behn in 2017.
– After I met Durek in 2018, I changed my mind. For me, getting married is a way of sealing the closeness between us, she says.
The couple is looking forward to giving each other their “yes” next weekend in front of 350 guests. Verrett tells the magazine that for him getting married is also a spiritual act.
– Sealing our relationship in front of the universe is a strong spiritual declaration, and being surrounded by the people who love us is wonderful, he says.
