Märta Stenevi resigns as spokesperson

Stenevi took sick leave for an indefinite period on January 18, following an autumn where “a lot happened at the same time”. Among other things, the leaks from within the party, where Stenevis’ leadership style has been criticized, must have been a contributing factor.

During Friday, Stenevi announces that she is leaving the position as spokesperson, which The evening paper was the first to report.

– In connection with the sick leave, I have been given space to think and feel. It’s going in the right direction, but I’ve been feeling really bad for a while and it needs to take its time, she writes in the Instagram post.

Knutson: “Perhaps not a coincidence”

SVT’s political commentator Mats Knutson believes that the announcement was as expected as it was unexpected.

– The fact that she is resigning today may not be a coincidence. The internal investigation that has been done within the party into her way of leading the party would be presented this weekend, he says.

Dadgostar (V): “Thank you Märta for everything”

Several politicians commented on the announcement on social media. The Liberals’ party leader Johan Pehrson writes on X that it is “sad to hear (…) but right to prioritize health and focus on the family”. The Left Party’s party leader Nooshi Dadgostar thanks Stenevi “for everything” in an Instagram post.

S leader Magdalena Andersson says in a comment to SVT:

– I want to thank Märta Stenevi for a very good collaboration and important efforts during the years as minister and spokesperson. I hope that she can soon continue working for Sweden and the Swedish people.

Has been a spokesperson for three years

Stenevi describes the three years as speaker as an “incredible experience”, but that it was tough at the same time. She will keep her seat in the Riksdag, but as long as she is on sick leave, a replacement will jump into her place.

Språkrörs colleague Daniel Helldén, som Valdes i november, har varit ensamt språkrör during the time Stenevi varit sjukskriven.

He writes on Instagram that he respects Stenevis’ decision, but that he finds it boring.

“I have really enjoyed working together with Märta. Now I hope she gets the help she needs to feel well once more”.
