Mars Bleu: a hike in Onet-le-Château to raise awareness about colorectal cancer screening

In reference to Pink October for breast cancer, Mars Bleu aims to make as many people as possible aware of the importance of colorectal cancer screening. Little known, this cancer is nevertheless the 2nd most common cancer in women and the 3rd in men, causing 17,000 deaths/year. But, detected early, it can be cured 9 times out of 10. This is why, with the logistical support of the town hall, the Communal Social Action Center of Onet-le-Château is mobilizing, alongside the League once morest Cancer and the Cancer Screening Coordination Center in Occitanie, to talk regarding it.

Blue March for Blue Mars

Physical activity (just like a balanced diet) being essential to the prevention of cancers, the operation this year takes the form of a hike called “Blue March”, in which four hiking associations take part: the GAEQ des Costes Rouges, Rand’Onet, Les Touroulis and the Four Seasons Sports Retreat. It will take place on Saturday March 19, from 1:30 p.m., departing from the Château d’Onet-Village and is aimed at everyone, novice or experienced walkers, since two circuits will be offered: one of 5 km (towards Souyri) , another 12 km (Bel air/Floyrac/Labro/Onet-village). The day will end with a free snack and all the hikers will leave with the Mars Bleu scarf.

Prevention stands and distribution of screening kits

To reinforce prevention and awareness of this day, the CCAS of Onet, the League once morest cancer, the CRCDC-Oc and the Cami sport & cancer, will animate stands from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Screening kits will also be distributed (they can now also be ordered online, to allow direct delivery to the homes of users who have received an invitation and who request it).
