Marrazzo and Zela, the cancellation of the candidacy of the two LGBT+ activists becomes a coincidence. This is why Pasovic and Gualdi wrote to Conte asking for their reinstatement in the lists of candidates for the Grillina primaries in view of the next European elections.
“Having learned, unfortunately, of the forfeiture of Marina Zela and Fabrizio Marrazzo’s self-nominations for the European Championships, for technical reasons, we appeal to President Giuseppe Conte, in compliance with the rules of the 5 Star Movement, believing that openness to civil society is important (as repeatedly supported publicly by our President) and we request the inclusion of LGBT+ activists, who had already passed the first round of voting, in the lists of Civic Candidates that will be voted on in the next few days. This appeal is very important for us, because Zela and Marrazzo represent a very important piece of society and are authoritative and professional voices on LGBT+ rights, their commitment to the Gay LGBT+ Party as well as 20 years of activism for LGBT+ rights is in our opinion an enrichment for the 5 Star Movement, which has deeply shared the contents and programs, the only case in our history. Furthermore, the Gay LGBT+ Party is a civil rights movement, not one of the usual parties we have always opposed, which with its presence, even in various electoral competitions outside the sides, given the awareness of the difficulty of overcoming electoral barriers, has made increasingly aside LGBT+ rights central. Therefore, excluding them from the competition precisely because of this membership would be a loss of enrichment for us. Furthermore, they since 2013, when we met the Hon. Fico together, they are close to the 5 Star Movement and for this reason, already candidates for previous elections, they can represent the political continuity of what has already been expressed in 2022. It is important to remember that, among the other activities carried out in synergy with the 5 Star Movement: the law once morest homobitransphobia was written, in 2020 the fund for LGBT+ victims was approved, for the 2022 policies the most advanced program for LGBT+ rights was created, including equal marriage, the law for trans people, the fight once morest discrimination in schools and practically all the requests requested by the LGBT+ community. Confirmation of their presence as actors in national and European politics, at this time where the right in Italy is in government, would guarantee greater protection for the rights of the LGBT+ community, which are attacked and hidden on a daily basis. Marrazzo and Zela’s political experience, which has seen them as protagonists for over 20 years, begins with associationism. They founded the first national Gay Help Line toll-free number in 2006 and in 2016 they established the first LGBT+ family home in Italy as well as being protagonists of many initiatives for LGBT+ rights and beyond, in Italy and abroad. Finally, confident that President Conte will be able to find the best synthesis, we ask those activists and self-candidates who have reported the incompatibility of Marrazzo and Zela to understand that it is more in line with the Movement to open up to LGBT+ rights than to exclude a Civic Movement from he is always our friend.” This is what Kemail Pasovic and Massimiliano Gualdi declare on the Amici 5 Stelle Civil Rights and LGBT+ page.
