Marrakech n- The film “Black Knight”, by Iranian director Emad Aleebrahim Dehkordi, was screened on Sunday as part of the official competition of the 19th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, organized until November 19 under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This 102-minute feature film tells the story of “Iman” and his little brother “Payar” who live with their father. After the death of their mother, “Iman” sees her life completely turned upside down and is looking for a way out.
Taking advantage of his relations with the golden youth of the capital, “Iman” creates a small business to make easy money, and what seems at first sight to be the path to a new beginning, reveals meanders specific to shake the fate of the family.
Speaking on this occasion, the director was delighted to have had the opportunity to attend the Marrakech International Film Festival, expressing his thanks to the Festival team for having selected his film for the official competition.
Referring to the difficulties encountered during filming, Mr. Aleebrahim Dehkordi underlined that this feature film earned him ten years of preparation and hard work.
A host of artists are featured in the film, namely Iman Sayad Borhani, Payar Allahyari, Masoumeh Beygi and Behzad Dorani.
Born in Tehran in 1979, Emad Aleebrahim Dehkordi graduated from the Fresnoy-Studio National des Arts Contemporains in France.
His short fiction films Lower Heaven (2017) and Cavalière (2020) have been screened at numerous festivals, namely the Toronto International Film Festival, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the Premiers Plans Festival in ‘Angers and the Winterthur International Short Film Festival.
“Chevalier Noir”, his first feature film, was selected at the Fabrique du Cinéma in Cannes and at the Ateliers Premiers Plans in Angers.
Fourteen feature films are in the running for the “Golden Star” in the official competition of the 19th Marrakech International Film Festival.
In addition to “CHEVALIER NOIR” (A Tale of Shemroon), the films in competition are: “LE BLEU DU CAFTAN” by Moroccan director Maryam Touzani, “ALMA VIVA” by Cristèle Alves Meira (Portugal), “ASHKAL” by Youssef Chebbi ( Tunisia), “ASTRAKAN” by David Depesseville (France), “AUTOBIOGRAPHY” by Makbul Mubarak (Indonesia) and FARAWAY SONG (Cañçao ao Longe) by Clarissa Campolina (Brazil).
Also in the running are “RED SHOES” (Zapatos rojos) by Carlos Kaiser Eichelmann (Mexico), “RICEBOY SLEEPS” by Anthony Shim (Canada), “SAVAGE” (Amina) by Ahmed Abdullahi (Sweden), “SNOW AND THE BEAR ” (Kar ve Ayı) by Selcen Ergun (Turkey), “PETROL” by Alena Lodkina (Australia), “THE TASTE OF APPLES IS RED” (Ta’am al-tufah, ahmar) by Ehab Tarabieh (Syria) and “FOUDRE ” (Thunder) by Carmen Jaquier (Switzerland).
