Extreme natural phenomena linked to climate change, such as desertification, scarcity of water resources, salinization of agricultural land, floods, hurricanes, among others, the number of which has tripled over the past thirty years, have generated often disastrous consequences on vulnerable communities, forced to choose migration as a way of survival.
Also, the existence of other economic, demographic, social and political determinants make it more complex to analyze the current global migration phenomenon and to establish the cause and effect relationship between climate change and migration.
This symposium, which is in line with Goal 13 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Goal 2 of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, would explore the links between climate change , migration and health in the MENA region, with particular emphasis on women’s health, through presentations of research results, case studies and existing public policies in the area in the countries of the MENA region.
The recommendations from this symposium will feed into the contributions of the Conference of Parties (COP 27) to be held in Egypt in November 2022 as well as the Egyptian Presidential Initiative on Women and Health, launched in July 2020.
Will take part in this symposium, the representatives of the Ministries and public institutions concerned, the experts, the international Organizations, the financial institutions as well as the associations of the civil society and other concerned stakeholders..
