Marquez promises to create quality jobs to stop migration

Candidate Enrique Márquez promised that if he wins the presidential elections on July 28, he would create quality jobs in Venezuela in order to stop youth migration.

«The responsibility of my candidacy is to produce an economy for the people, not for a little donut around power (…) We will be the Government of employment to stop migration in its tracks“Márquez said in a press release.

The former head of the National Electoral Council (CNE) toured Petare, the largest slum in Venezuela, where he stated that the current economic system is what has caused the “massive migration” of Venezuelans.

«The main problem that the country has is the economy. Because of the destroyed economy, children leave (…) There are no opportunities, there is no employment and that is why they leave the country.“s,” he added.

According to data from the Interagency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela (R4V), a mechanism co-led by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), some 7.7 million Venezuelans have left their country in recent years.

In the elections on July 28, a dozen candidates – all men – will compete for the presidency, including former ambassador Edmundo González Urrutia, the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform.
