Classified as a major French site and member of the club of the most beautiful bays in the world, the Bay of Somme is the pride of Hauts-de-France as much as it is the pleasure of nature lovers. Within it, the Marquenterre estate is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. Guillaume Desplanques traces the history of this natural jewel which welcomes more species of birds every year.
Guillaume Desplanques tells us regarding his film and his meetings during filming in 2022/2023:
I want to take the viewer to discover this park, the director of its history and all those who participate in the preservation of this precious environment. 2023 is an important year for the park, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary. It seems all the more judicious to me to make this film today, at a time when Marquenterre is at a pivotal moment in its existence.

In half a century, the Marquenterre park has become an essential refuge for migratory birds.
There are indeed encounters that mark you more than others, and places that inspire you.

What fascinated me at first when I discovered the Marquenterre park was that this little terrestrial paradise torn from the sea seems protected from human frenzy. It is
incredible to imagine that these 200 hectares of mollières, pine forests and bodies of water have been completely shaped by the hand of man, to ultimately become a haven of peace and reproduction for birds.

And the meeting that struck me the most was the one with this extraordinary ornithologist. A meeting that was all the more important as it heightened my ecological awareness. He brought my attention to areas I was unaware of existence so far. In addition, with his endearing personality and his gift for storytelling, Philippe Carruette makes scientific knowledge accessible and exciting. He is a man in total harmony with nature, he lives for nature. He is only happy outside. The feeling passed very quickly between us.

I have already produced numerous reports on the Marquenterre park during the last years. Today, my desire is to continue to transmit the passion and knowledge of Philippe Carruette through a documentary film.
Marquenterre, birds and men.
