Who does not remember the legendary band Kroky František Janeček and its singing stars? A phenomenon of her time, especially among the soldiers, was Markéta Muchová, a blonde with long legs. Singing wasn’t her strongest point, but that didn’t matter at all! How did this model become a singer and what is she doing today?
Markéta Krbušková – this name probably wouldn’t sound too familiar to you. But it is the birth name of the singer known as Markéta Muchová. This pseudonym was invented by František Janeček, the producer and bandleader of the mega-popular group Kroky in the 1980s.
“I originally thought that I could perform under the stage name Markéta Lazarová, but in the end I wanted to have the monogram MM and Janeček came up with Muchová,” Markéta once revealed to Blesk the origin of her pseudonym, which was supposed to evoke the famous Marilyn Monroe.

She wanted to be a puppeteer
Markéta was born on October 30, 1957 in Prague and grew up in Vinohrady. She has been playing in the Paraple puppet theater since school she wanted to become a puppeteer. Later, she tried twice unsuccessfully to get into DAMU, and so on she threw herself into the runway of mannequinsas today’s model was then called.
Even if not with puppets, you will later she starred in the film. They were minor roles in pictures Fifty-six unapologetic hours, Love between raindrops, Recharge the grandmas exactly! or Just one step from murder to a lie.
She then portrayed the ship’s laboratory technician Karin in the series Octopuses from II. floor. But you wouldn’t recognize Markéta by her voice, because Soňa Dvořáková overdubbed her during the post-synchronisations.
It’s all Ringo’s fault
Although many think that František Janeček discovered Markéta for show business, this is a mistake. On the fashion catwalk, a pretty blonde in her song Good morning was discovered in 1983 by František Ringo Čech. “He needed a female voice for about two verses, so he said to me, ‘Hey, come and sing it,'” remembers his first “public singing” Markét.
Only at this moment does the talent hunter Janeček come in, who needed to add to his singing stable. He had Pavle Horňák compulsory for all, Michal David for female fans and he needed some a draw for boys and especially for soldiers. The sexy leggy blonde perfectly fulfilled that.
Singing? That wasn’t the main thing
Markéta, now Muchová, was a hit. She had a pretty face, a great figure, thanks to her modeling training, she knew how to move around the stage and in front of the lens. And that – to put it politely – she was singing on a scorpion, that was beside the point.
Although she did not command the microphone like a professional singer, her presence on stage overshadowed any shortcomings. Michal David remembered it: “I remember my first concert in the barracks in 1980, when I was starting out as a singer – two soldiers came up to me. There were more of us on stage than in the audience. We played the concert, but when we got Markéta after a while, we had a full barracks because all the guys from her were finished. That’s how it just worked.”
He wasn’t at the time playback no secret, and Muchová used it to the full. The sound engineers were able to skillfully mask her vocal deficiencies with their “magic”.
And so Markéta Muchová she released her solo album in 1985 Superdenon which, in addition to the title song, there were also other gems such as Aha, Go home, go or Try it with us. It sold great for that time 50 thousand pieces and Markéta yielded i 10th place in the Golden Nightingale survey.
Love in the band
Markéta Muchová’s career lasted just over three years. She became closer in the Steps group with guitarist Jiří Nepomucký and the romantic story behind the scenes soon turned into reality when they got married and had a baby two sons – Jiří (1988) and Jan (1990).
At that time, Markéta gave priority to family life, took the surname Nepomucká when she got married, and stopped performing concerts. She performed her last performance on December 22, 1987when she was already expecting her first son. At the age of thirty, she was almost unique as a first-time mother.
Where did she go?
But the marriage after a few years ended in divorce. When the children grew up, Markéta started working as assistant in a foreign company. Today, he looks at his artistic life with perspective. She has only one friend left from the singing industry – Marcela Holanová.
She thought about a comeback only once. She called Michal David and asked him for tickets to his concert. They got together and talked for a while. “She said she was happy that she had a pretty good job. But she had a tendency to try to start singing again. So I told her not to do that,” the hitmaker recounted in the book Pop stars we loved.

Markéta Muchová: The ‘Vocally Challenged’ Star Who Rocked the ‘80s
Ah, Markéta Muchová! A name that might not send shivers down your spine, but in the dusty archives of Czech pop history, she’s like the surprise ingredient in grandma’s secret recipe—slightly questionable yet undeniably nostalgic.
Let’s face it, folks. If you can sing at the same level as a rusty old gate hinge, you might not have a career in music—but if you’re blessed with legs for days and an attractive smile, well, the world can be your runway! Cue the eye rolls from every vocal coach in existence.
From Puppeteer Dreams to ‘Superstar’ Schemes
Born on October 30, 1957, in Prague, Markéta aspired to be a puppeteer. Imagine that—a world where she coaxed wooden puppets into existence instead of enticing hearts with her vocal prowess. But what do you do when you can’t get into DAMU? You strut down the catwalk and hope someone mistakes you for a star! Spoiler alert: František Ringo Čech did just that when he plucked her from obscurity for a 1983 gig that would predictably not award her with a Grammy anytime soon.
Markéta swooped into fame thanks to a good dose of luck, a sprinkle of charm, and just a pinch of actual singing ability. Let’s be honest—when they say "It’s not what you know, it’s who you know," they might as well be discussing how Janeček’s discovery of her was less about talent and more about having the right attributes for the stage (and a leggy silhouette that could stop traffic).
Singing? Who Needs It!
Enter her music career with a bang tantamount to a flat tire. Markéta scored attention not for her pitch-perfect high notes but for her availability—and we can all agree that was a game changer! With songs like "Good Morning" that fell somewhere between melodic and mildly torturous, she illustrated the music industry’s willingness to embrace talent—or lack thereof. There’s a reason echo-cancellation became Markéta’s best friend (or should we say a sound engineer’s nightmare).
She released her solo album, Superden, in 1985, which was far more praised than anyone could have expected—selling 50,000 copies! Kudos to her for making it to the Golden Nightingale survey, although let’s be real: it should have been a Golden Ostrich for the sheer audacity of calling herself a singer.
A Quick Detour via Love Lane
In what can only be described as “the plot twist none of us saw coming,” Markéta endeavored into marriage and expanded her future stardom into family life. Blessed with two sons, Jiří and Jan, she traded the microphone for school runs and toddler tantrums, probably contemplating whether life in the puppet theater might not have played out better. This transition heralded her swift exit from the limelight post-1987, like a lead singer ejected from their own band for forgetting the lyrics.
Where’s Markéta Now?
Fast forward to modern-day Markéta—a nostalgic muse peering back at her time on stage with a mixture of pride and relief. Her only remaining friendship is with Marcela Holanová—a reminder that not all industry connections fall apart, even when your stage career does.
When Michal David suggested that bits of her past could be revisited, Markéta gave it a fleeting thought. But perhaps dodging a return to “singing” was wise; after all, some things are best left buried, like that awkward dancing at your cousin’s wedding.
In a world that often prioritizes vocal talent, her legacy stands unique—because sometimes, it’s not about the notes you hit, but the legs you flaunt. So here’s to Markéta Muchová: an icon for the not-so-faint-hearted, whose stage presence was more about visual appeal than vocal authenticity!
And there you have it, folks—an ode to a one-hit-wonder with all the vocal power of a damp sponge. So the next time life gives you lemons… remember to give them a cheeky wink and strut on as if you’re belting it out like nobody’s listening!

Who could forget the iconic band Kroky František Janeček and its memorable vocal talents? Among the phenomenon that captivated audiences, particularly soldiers, was none other than Markéta Muchová, a striking blonde with long legs. While her singing skills may have been average, her allure was undeniable! How did this stunning model transition into the world of music, and what is she up to today?
Markéta Krbušková – a name that might not ring a bell for many. However, this is the birth name of the renowned singer known to the world as Markéta Muchová. This stage name was coined by František Janeček, the visionary producer and bandleader behind the massively popular group Kroky during the vibrant 1980s.
“I initially considered performing under the name Markéta Lazarová, but ultimately wanted my monogram to be MM, leading Janeček to suggest Muchová,” Markéta shared in an interview with Blesk, revealing how her pseudonym was meant to echo the legendary Marilyn Monroe.

She wanted to be a puppeteer
Born on October 30, 1957, in Prague, Markéta grew up amid the charm of Vinohrady. She spent her formative years immersed in the Paraple puppet theater, harboring dreams of becoming a puppeteer. Despite her aspirations, she faced setbacks in gaining admission to DAMU, the prestigious drama school, leading her to pivot towards modeling, or what was referred to at the time as the runway of mannequins.
Although puppeteer dreams faded, Markéta did not stray far from the performing arts. She made her mark in several films, landing minor roles in productions like Fifty-six unapologetic hours and Just one step from murder to a lie.
Her talents even led her to the television series Octopuses from II. floor, where she portrayed the ship’s laboratory technician, Karin. However, her distinctive voice was replaced during post-synchronization by Soňa Dvořáková, making it challenging for audiences to recognize her.
It’s all Ringo’s fault
Contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t František Janeček who unearthed Markéta’s talent for show business. Instead, the beautiful blonde was discovered in 1983 by František Ringo Čech while performing on the fashion catwalk during her rendition of Good morning. “He needed a female voice for about two verses, so he said to me, ‘Hey, come and sing it,'” Markéta recalled of her first venture into public singing.
It was at this time that Janeček entered the picture, realizing he needed additional vocal talent for his stable. With renowned artists like Pavle Horňák and Michal David, he was in search of a captivating draw for the youthful male demographic, especially soldiers, and Markéta’s striking presence fit the bill perfectly.
Singing? That wasn’t the main thing
Markéta, now embraced as Muchová, quickly became a sensation. With her captivating face and striking figure, coupled with her experience in modeling, she commanded attention on stage. Her limited vocal abilities, described in a delicately humorous manner as singing “on a scorpion,” were largely overlooked by adoring fans.
Despite not possessing the prowess of seasoned singers, Markéta’s on-stage charisma overshadowed any vocal shortcomings. Michal David reminisced, “During my first concert in the barracks in 1980, we played to an almost empty room. However, once Markéta joined us, the entire barracks filled with soldiers drawn to her,” showcasing her magnetic effect on the audience.
The phenomenon of playback was no secret at the time, and Muchová skillfully leveraged it in her performances. Sound engineers adeptly concealed her vocal weaknesses through their technical expertise.
Thus, Markéta Muchová achieved remarkable success, releasing her solo album in 1985 titled Superden, which featured hits like Aha and Try it with us. The album was a commercial triumph for its time, selling an impressive 50 thousand copies and earning her a commendable 10th place in the Golden Nightingale survey.
Love in the band
Markéta Muchová’s career was brief, spanning just over three years. During her time with the band Steps, she found romance with guitarist Jiří Nepomucký, culminating in marriage and the joy of welcoming two sons, Jiří (1988) and Jan (1990).
Prioritizing family life, Markéta adopted the name Nepomucká and stepped back from the limelight. Her final concert performance occurred on December 22, 1987, coinciding with her pregnancy with her first child, at a young age of thirty.
Where did she go?
After several years, her marriage ended in divorce. As her sons matured, Markéta transitioned into a professional role as an assistant in a foreign company. Today, she reflects on her artistic past and cherishes the singular connection she maintains with fellow musician Marcela Holanová.
Markéta contemplated a return to music only once. She reached out to Michal David for concert tickets, and during their exchange, she expressed satisfaction with her current job but hinted at the desire to sing again. “I advised her against it,” David recalled in the book Pop stars we loved.
