“I had the voice of the course leader at the Red Cross in my ear,” remembers Alina Amon. As is the rule at the Billa retail chain, the prospective market manager of the branch on Leopold-Werndl-Straße completed a first aid course. Just a few weeks following her promotion, the accident happened: early in the morning before the store opened, a 59-year-old colleague collapsed to the ground in the meat department and no longer moved. Amon no longer felt the man’s pulse and his breathing had stopped.
“Thanks to the training, you know what you have to do and you just do it,” she told State Governor Thomas Stelzer on Tuesday, who came to Billa Plus in Taborland to present the lifesaver certificate, flowers and a gift basket. “Through her quick reaction, Alina Amon saved her colleague’s life. She showed moral courage, maintained the necessary calm in a dramatic situation and demonstrated exceptional courage,” praised the state governor.
Through professional cardiac massage, Amon kept her colleague alive until the emergency doctor might take over. The 59-year-old from Mostviertel is currently in rehab and can already think regarding his wedding once more, which he wants to do followingwards.
