Mario Strikers: Battle League has received a general trailer detailing a number of features players can experience in the upcoming extreme soccer title from Nintendoincluding a new “electrifying” mode that should offer a fresh take on the series’ typical formula.
It looks like he’s managed to do just that with the “Strike” mode of Battle League, a 5v5 matchup set inside a soccer field surrounded by electric fences. The ruleset is still as loose as ever, but now players will pick up Strike balls scattered around the arena that can be collected to trigger a Hyper Strike move. Getting the ball into the goal while using this outrageous special ability will net the team two points instead of the usual one.
Players will also be able to take on the opposing team’s characters and use a variety of items to disorient and disrupt them. With so many classic Mario-adjacent characters to choose from, each with unique stats and gear that can be equipped to alter them, there’s bound to be no shortage of chaos on the field.
Battle League supports local multiplayer of up to 8 players, while its online multiplayer component gives enthusiasts the option to join or create a club of up to 20 players total. Club owners can customize team uniforms and even their home stadium, and the club can engage in matchups with competing clubs to earn higher ranks on the online boards.
Mario Strikers: Battle League seems to be shaping up to be the most feature-packed entry in the franchise yet, but we’ll know for sure when it launches on June 10 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Until then, you can play soccer in the newly released Nintendo Switch Sports.
