After being long requested by Nintendo fans, the Switch is finally getting a new Mario soccer game. While the title is expected to be one of the big cartridges for Nintendo’s hybrid console this summer, we were able to play it for more than an hour just to do the tutorial and play several matches, and we give you our impressions in video !

Summary

  • A more technical experience but still accessible
  • Sufficient content at launch?

We can say that the last time that Mario had the right to an entire game devoted to football, that is to say if we omit Mario Sports Superstars, water flowed under the bridges. Because yes, remember well, Mario Smash Football was released in 2005 on Gamecube and Mario Strikers Charged Football in 2007 on Wii, in other words an eternity. Inevitably, when Nintendo finally formalized a new episode during a Nintendo Direct last February, fans of the first were in joy. As the launch of the game is imminent, on June 10 we remind you, we were able to play it for a good hourjust to do the tutorial and a lot of matches, and we give you all our impressions in the video above.

A more technical experience but still accessible

In Mario Strikers : Battle League Football, the gameplay remains as accessible as ever so that everyone can have fun, without having to worry regarding mastering all the tools offered by the game at their fingertips. However, this does not prevent the title from providing players with more advanced mechanics to allow those who intend not to let go of the game to never be bored. Very clearly, this more subtle gameplay is there to ensure that the online remains interesting in the long term, in particular thanks to the club mode which we have not been able to try for the moment.

From now on, we only choose characters from the Mario universe among our players, and no longer minions like Koopas or Boos. And since they all have their own statistics, each selection can be unique. all the more unique as this Switch episode introduces equipment that also has a direct influence on the characteristics of each character : strength, speed, shooting, technique etc…

Beyond this gameplay which seems solid, we can ask ourselves some questions on the content side. For the moment we only have regarding ten playable characters, regarding twenty pieces of equipment and only five different stages. It remains to be seen if there will be some hidden elements to revive interest or if even free additional content is planned in the future, as was the case for Mario Tennis Aces et Mario Golf : Super Rush. In any case, answer on June 10 to get your hands on the final game!
