Mario Cascarano, his wife Michelina and Salvatore Imperiale are among the victims

This announcement touches us all the more since Salvatore Imperiale was none other than the father of our former journalist colleague, Mattia Imperiale.

To him, his sister Marianna and their mother, we offer our very sincere condolences. There are no words for such a drama.

Laurent Darquenne, colleague and friend of Salvatore Imperiale, pays tribute to a man “with an infectious smile, strong convictions and a big heart! True fan of RAAL and Napoli, I will miss our football discussions. Salvatore worked in the gardening department of the Cora hypermarket. “We’ve known each other for ten years. I had joined the union delegation of the store at his side. He was a man whose ideas I appreciated. He was in a good mood most of the time and had an infectious laugh. I knew his children, Mattia and Marianna, well, as they worked several times as students at the store. Mattia, who is also a writer, had even presented her book “Alice” on the shelves of our store. I especially think of them. This death is so unjust.”

Salvatore’s aunt and sister, Michelina Imperiale (known as Micheline) also died in Strépy-Bracquegnies. She worked for the financial department of the CPAS in the city of La Louvière. His colleagues hail his “joviality and humanity.” At dawn on Sunday, she was accompanying her husband Mario Cascarano, who also died in this fateful procession.

Mario Cascarano was also a man who sowed good humor around him. His friends pay tribute to his songs, his jokes, his love for football. Among them, many colleagues from the Barry Callebaut factory (formerly Côte d’Or) in Halle. “Mario and I have been colleagues for 25 years. We parted on Friday. I can’t talk about him in the past tense,” says Rino Moscato, his colleague.

Mario had been hospitalized for the covid

“He was a fan of Inter Milan and I of Juventus. And so, it was a good discussion between us. Between colleagues, we went to see football matches in Sicily, in Palermo. Mario was a nice person. It was unanimous. He never had an unfair word about anyone. We will miss him too much”. Mario had been seriously affected by the covid a few months ago, to the point of having to be hospitalized. “As a result, he had become almost paranoid. He no longer wanted to take a shower at the factory. He was suspicious of everything. Didn’t go out anymore.” It is quite possible that this pickup in Strépy with the Vivaldi kitty was the first outing that the unfortunate Mario was authorized with his wife and his brother-in-law…
