Jesus Gonzalez Schmal, the lawyer for the confessed murderer of presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio, assured that Mario Aburto’s freedom is guaranteed on March 23,
During an interview on Azucena Uresti’s news program on Radiofórmula, the defender assured that Aburto is aware of the situation.
González Schmal denied that this is a “smokescreen” by the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador as has been accused, because 30 years ago a presidential candidate was assassinated, and this year the most important elections in Mexico.

“There is a deep national problem, almost 30 years ago a candidate was murdered, a candidate who did not adhere to his party,” said González Schmal.

Regarding the identification of a second shooter, Aburto’s lawyer ruled out the fact:
“We do not accept the theory of a second shooter, because it would be accepting that Aburto is responsible, we know well that there were vices since his arrest, he was tortured to accept his guilt,” stated the defender.
Aburto’s lawyer explained that President López Obrador could not grant a pardon to Mario Aburto because he did not make great contributions to culture or art like David Alfaro Siqueiros did at the time.
Therefore, they will wait for the protection filed before the Court, which will decide what proceeds with the conviction of Mario Aburto, but his freedom is guaranteed for March 2024, because it is 30 years since the assassination of the presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio.
