Marinos de Oriente returns to winning ways by beating Cocodrilos

Luis Bethelmy scored 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and received a standing ovation from the crowd, in Marinos de Oriente’s 100-67 victory over Cocodrilos de Caracas, this Wednesday, July 3, in a game played to a full house at the Rutaca Sports Arena of the Maturín Sports Center, in the final stretch of the first phase of the Professional Basketball Super League (SPB).

The “eastern battleship”, with two games remaining, is one step away from securing its qualification for the postseason, with a record of 14 wins and 8 losses, reaching 100 points in a game for the first time this season.

Marinos dominated from the first quarter, with a demonstration of superiority and extraordinary defense over the saurians, leaders of group 2 of the SPB. For its part, Guaiqueríes de Margarita (15-7) is second, while the “battleship” is third.

Marinos de Oriente’s next match will be this Sunday, July 7, against Gaiteros del Zulia, closing the first phase of the initial round against Piratas de La Guaira on Wednesday the 10th. Both matches will be at home at the Rutaca Sports Arena.

The top four teams in each group qualify for the postseason, while the teams that finish in fifth and sixth place will play a play-in to advance.

After three consecutive losses, Marinos de Oriente showed their superiority with an inspired Bethelmy, who led the offense achieving 15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
