Asuncion, IP Agency.- Some 326 tons of marijuana were removed from circulation through joint work between agents from the National Anti-Drug Secretariat and the Internal Defense Operations Command, causing economic damage to organized crime exceeding 9 million dollars.
This operation, called Regression II, is focused on attacking the main sources of financing for criminal groups that originate from important marijuana processing centers located between Corpus Christi, Brítez Cué and surrounding areas in Canindeyú.
This action was coordinated with helicopters from the Paraguayan Air Force and provided a marked presence in the area, which was not limited to the destruction of 21 camps, but also to establishing permanent patrol groups.
Operation Regression II was carried out under the coordination of prosecutors Christian Royg and Inés Estigarribia.
They also allowed the elimination of 107 hectares of illicit crops, most of which were worked by indigenous communities that respond to the orders of criminal leaders.
Overall, taking into account the quantity of drugs destroyed and the logistics used for processing, the operation generated an economic loss of 9.7 million dollars, reported Senad.
