It is one of the most read women’s magazines in France with its 7.8 million readers. For its October issue, on newsstands September 8, Marie Claire – a monthly publication with a high-end positioning created in 1937 – has given itself a new face and premiumized its appearance.
Marie Claire premiumizes its paper magazine with a more graphic appearance – Marie Claire
86 years following its creation, Marie Claire has once once more reworked its image. At the helm of this new, more daring version: Katell Pouliquen, editorial director since February 2020. A graduate of the Lille School of Journalism, the Breton leader previously worked for the magazines Elle and Be.
It is with Adrien Pelletier (ex-AD of L’Officiel Paris and Grazia), that she completely redesigned the model of the paper version as well as the graphic charter of the site and its social networks. Appointed artistic director of Marie Claire in February, his mission is to breathe new artistic momentum into the brand.
For the new graphic and freer typography also used on its digital and social platforms, the duo collaborated with the Parisian design agency Production Type. “The magazine wants to be more elegant and more graphic” underlines the brand in a press release. A stylistic evolution put in place to keep abreast of contemporary trends.
A formula with more “breathing”
Major reports, long-term investigations, interviews… In 2021, the magazine received the distinction of publication of political and general information (IPG), thus rewarding its journalistic work, its societal commitment and its speaking out in favor of the emancipation of women, a cause defended since its beginnings in the interwar period.
“This new artistic impulse will give even more resonance to our content and should lead Marie Claire to position itself as an even more premium magazine, specifies Katell Pouliquen. More rhythm, visual cues and breaths: the reading experience will gain greatly in clarity and quality.”
