The 128.6 km long 6th stage of the women’s tour goes to the rider in the maillot jaune: Marianne Vos wins the sprint. Also on Friday there is a serious fall in the race, in which Marlen Reusser is also involved. The tour is over for Swiss.
The accident drama at the Tour de France Femmes continues in the 6th stage. And this time it hits a Swiss woman hard.
Marlen Reusser, who was still the clear winner of the stage on Wednesday, was involved in a fall regarding 25 kilometers from the finish. On the descent, the 30-year-old from Bern falls in a wooded area and hits her head on the ground.
Reusser can continue the race, but she finishes more than a quarter of an hour behind in Rosheim and then has to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. The Reusser team boss confirmed to the “radsport-news.com” portal that the driver was being examined by doctors for safety. Later, Team SD Worx announces that Reusser has suffered a concussion and therefore has to give up the tour.
Elise Chabbey best Swiss in 10th place
Lorena Wiebes also falls in the crash. The wearer of the green jersey and winner of the stage from the previous day is also struggling bravely to the finish – marked by the fall. But she loses several minutes on the field and finishes the race in tears.
In the end, Friday’s victory goes to Marianne Vos from Team Jumbo-Visma. The Dutchwoman remains in the Maillot Jaune. The Italian Marta Bastianelli, who crossed the finish line in second place, was left behind in the final sprint.
As the best Swiss, Elise Chabbey finished 21st. The 29-year-old from Geneva is currently 10th in the overall standings, 2:34 minutes behind leader Vos. (cat)
