Mariandrée Chacón ended her performance at the Stade de France with a bittersweet taste in her mouth after having competed in her first Olympic Games.
The Guatemalan showed up at the games in the French capital as one of the youngest in the delegation and the only one to compete in athletics eventsin fact, she became the first woman to compete in the most demanding speed tests for the first time in 40 years.
At 19 years old, Mariandrée took to the track at the Stade de France at around 3 a.m. on August 2 and finished third in her qualifying heat of the 100 meters with a time of 11.90 seconds.
That time allowed her to compete in the first round, which she finished ninth with a time of 12.06.
Although she did not achieve a time that would allow her to compete for a place in the semifinals, Mariandrée Chacón could be satisfied with the fact that she is the first Guatemalan in 40 years to step onto an athletics track at the Olympic Games. However, she made statements after her performance and said that she could have done better.
“Now I’m happy, but at the same time a little upset with myself“I feel like I hadn’t worked hard to do it any other way, but that’s the result that God wants and I’m happy to have made it through to the next round,” he said in the mixed zone at the Stade de France.
The Paris Olympics were the first of her life, but at 19, the Guatemalan has a career ahead of her and could compete again in a major athletics event in the future.
