New York: Metallica, the Jonas Brothers, singers Mariah Carey and Rosalia, along with a number of stars, will participate in the upcoming “Global Citizen” festival in New York, whose proceeds are going to eradicate extreme poverty in the world.

The 10th edition of the festival will be held on September 24 in Central Park, while similar concerts are organized in Accra (Ghana) by singers Asher and Sza (SZA), Stormzy and Hare (HER), Sarkody, Stoneboy and Thames.

These concerts have been held since 2012, coinciding with the meeting of world leaders in New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly. Global Citizen distributes free tickets to people who pledge, for example, to send a letter to their country’s government in support of development aid.

Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas will host the event, urging state leaders and philanthropists to reduce debt, make better food available to people, and invest in solutions to help tackle climate issues.

“Decades of political and systemic failures have caused humanity to converge and rapidly deteriorate crises, most notably those related to climate, hunger, health, war and conflict,” Global Citizen co-founder and CEO Hugh Evans said in a statement.

“The poorest of the population have paid the price for the leaders’ inaction in what is currently considered the fate of millions of people and our planet at stake,” he added.
