Sotskova survived failure at the Olympics, disqualification for doping and divorce. But now, it seems, all the failures are behind us.

By the age of 23, Russian figure skater Maria Sotskova had to face a lot of blows from fate, but the collapse of her career, illness, difficult divorce and long disqualification have now faded into the background.
The spectacular athlete finally found family happiness and became a mother.
Failure following failure
Maria Sotskova showed great promise in figure skating. In December 2013, she won the final of the Junior Grand Prix, leaving behind Evgenia Medvedeva, the future winner of two gold medals at the World Championships and two silver medals at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.
It seemed that the artistic and bright figure skater had great victories ahead, but at the adult level Maria was plagued by failures. She twice stopped one step away from the podium at the European Championships, and at the Olympics in Pyeongchang she experienced enormous stress and was unable to show her maximum. Against the background of the grandiose confrontation between Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva for gold, it was even somehow forgotten that Russia had three representatives in the singles tournament.
Since then, Sotskova has not participated in major tournaments. Injuries and psychological problems only brought her closer to the inevitable end of her career. Not everything went well for Maria in her personal life. Her marriage to composer Mikhail Omelchuk fell apart without lasting even a year.
“If a “fantasy storyteller” comes into your life, most likely you will quickly understand this,” Sotskova said on social networks regarding her ex-husband.
In 2021, the athlete faced another heavy blow – disqualification for as much as 10 years. The severe punishment was imposed due to the discovery of furosemide in the figure skater’s doping samples. Sotskova stated that she used the drug for medical reasons, but the clinic where it was prescribed did not have the necessary license.
Although Sotskova had already completed her performances by the time of her disqualification, the scandalous suspension might not help but affect her life. Fans and even experts openly hated the girl for her irresponsibility, which left a stain on the reputation of our entire figure skating. In addition, Maria is prohibited from engaging in any activities related to figure skating until 2030. Accordingly, you can’t count on earning money from participating in shows, coaching, and staging programs.

After these shocks, Maria disappeared from public space for a long time. Only on July 1, she published a video on social networks with her new chosen one, Maxim Bogoslavsky. The young man is not associated with figure skating and works in the field of web analytics. The reason for the announcement of the chosen one was the figure skater’s pregnancy.
“From the first day we found out that we were expecting a baby, our life began to sparkle with new colors, our love became even stronger. I was sure it would be a boy. But we will have a daughter, and we are incredibly happy regarding it. We are really waiting for you, our baby,” Sotskova wrote.

On December 12, Maria told subscribers good news: the figure skater gave birth to a daughter, who was named Vera. Upon returning from the maternity hospital, the athlete and baby were greeted by a house decorated with flowers and balloons. We can only hope that all the troubles in the life of Maria Sotskova are left behind, and nothing will prevent the talented girl from experiencing all the joys of motherhood.
