María Soto, president of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV), praised the work carried out by the national delegation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which recently concluded.

For Soto, the achievement of seven Olympic diplomas in the universal competition, which took place from July 26 to August 11, demonstrated that the country’s athletes possess a high level of quality.

He knows that after not winning any medals, something that had not happened since Sydney 2000, Venezuela needs to come up with a development plan that will allow it to excel more in Los Angeles 2028, although he emphasized the work of the national athletes who overcame injuries and other types of difficulties to be able to represent their homeland in the capital of France.

“The Paris 2024 Olympic Games have ended. Venezuela participated with 33 athletes in 11 sports and obtained a total of seven Olympic diplomas. I am proud of our boys and girls who fought on every stage. Even though they were able to get on the podium, we are proud of each of their performances because we experienced first-hand everything they did to get to this event,” she said in an interview with Aloys Marín, representative of the COV press department.

Without conformism

Soto, who represented the Birthplace of Simón Bolívar in Beijing 2008 as a member of the women’s softball team, said that for the COV there are no reasons to feel totally satisfied with what the team did in Paris 2024.

Following the conclusion of the competition, the COV will evaluate the results obtained by the local athletes in the 11 disciplines in which they participated, to determine how they can improve their performance in the face of future international competitions.

“We are not satisfied with what has happened, but we extend our hand to each one of them (the athletes), to their coaches and to their leaders because we know that they left everything to leave Venezuela as high as possible. So warriors, men and women, we will always be here, supporting you in each of your competitions (…) Venezuela will make a deep analysis of everything that has happened, but never reproaching anything to our athletes who worthily completed an Olympic cycle,” added Soto, who recalled that next November the native troop will attend the Bolivarian Games in Ayacucho, Peru, where they hope to excel.

“Venezuela continues to vibrate in each of these sports and in each scenario that is presented,” concluded Soto, who in Beijing 2008 had the honor of being the flag bearer for Venezuela.
