She succeeds Johannes Bruckenberger, who, following five years at the helm of the news agency, is applying for one of the three editor-in-chief positions in the ORF newsroom on Küniglberg. The 38-year-old Viennese Scholl, who has served as APA’s deputy editor-in-chief since 2019, is the first woman to head the APA editorial team.

APA managing director Clemens Pig describes the new APA editor-in-chief as a “role model for future-oriented newsroom management in agency journalism”. As of today, she replaces the 55-year-old Upper Austrian Bruckenberger, who took over the position of editor-in-chief from Michael Lang at the beginning of 2019 and has since shaped the company with the introduction of fact checks and the expansion of climate reporting. For the time being, Bruckenberger will remain as a simple member of the editor-in-chief.
