“María Corina wants to be president, but conditions are lacking”

“María Corina Machado wants to be president, but the conditions to participate in elections are lacking.” This was stated by the national secretary of Vente Venezuela and deputy to the National Assembly elected in 2015, Dignora Hernandez.

Hernández recalled that his party held its 7th Federal Meeting last week, where the most important decisions of the organization are made. He explained that important decisions were made and the values of the group led by María Corina Machado were ratified.

“Our main agreement is that we are going to confront the regime and its collaborators in any field. Our fight is not for coexistence with the regime but for freedom”, he assured.

He argued that within the spaces in which he will fight to achieve political change in the country; is the celebration of a process within the Venezuelan opposition to define who would make up the leadership and would guide, in his opinion, the fight towards freedom.

He stressed that in the proposal to renew the opposition leadership there are conditions on the part of Vente Venezuela. For example, he considers that this election process should be carried out without the National Electoral Council and without the Republic Plan. He also believes that the vote of the diaspora should be guaranteed and that the vote be manual. This in order that “it be an event in which the will of Venezuelans inside and outside the country is respected.”

«It was Vente that called for the renewal of the leadership and now we are evaluating how to build mechanisms to make all the proposals a libertarian milestone and for this we have also set conditions. For example, a pact with those who sold themselves to the regime is not possible.

Will María Corina Machado participate in elections with Maduro?

Although he knows that the current situation in the country makes it difficult for these conditions to be met, he assures that citizen pressure might contribute to ensuring that this election has these guarantees. “This election is not for 2023, it is for now. Political leadership must be renewed. We are not calling to elect a presidential candidate.”

Finally, he commented that Vente Venezuela understands that at the moment the conditions are not given in the country to participate in an electoral process called by Nicolás Maduro. However, he explains that they do not rule out that with the support of Venezuelans and the international community “that they put the regime once morest the wall” and agreements can be reached that allow an electoral process in which they participate.

“That would have to be evaluated. Vente’s commitment is to achieve freedom and we will be fighting in all scenarios. We want Venezuelan society to know that we are not going to fail them. They are calling for elections with candidates who cohabit and we have to turn this into mechanisms in favor of freedom.
