The Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado thanked this Friday the presidents of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and of France, Emmanuel Macron, for their position on the presidential elections of July 28, in whichThey expressed their concern regarding the impossibility of anti-Chavismo to register the candidacy of Corina Yoris.

“I thank Presidents Emmanuel Macron, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Gustavo Petro for their positions in the last hours that reaffirm that our fight is fair and democratic,” Machado published on his X account.

The anti-Chavista asked the “democratic leaders of the world” to unite to demand that Nicolás Maduro’s regime allow Yoris to register as a candidate for Venezuela’s main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD).

“It has become clear that there are no political or legal reasons that prevent Corina Yoris from being a candidate and that her exclusion, like mine, denies the possibility of free and fair elections,” he added.

Machado, disqualified from holding elected office, gave the candidacy to the historian Corina Yoris, who also might not be registered by the PUD.

“We ask all democratic leaders in the world for their support for the full implementation of the Barbados Agreement, signed just a few months ago, to achieve free and fair elections in Venezuela,” he said.

On Thursday, the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and France, Emmanuel Macron, stated that the impediments to the registration of Yoris’ opposition candidacy in Venezuela are “serious.”

Lula, who spoke to the press in a joint appearance with his French counterpart, on an official visit to Brazil, stated that the fact that Yoris has not been able to register as a candidate is something that has no “political or legal” explanation.

For its part, the Government of Colombia expressed its concern regarding the difficulties of the Venezuelan opposition in registering their candidacies for the presidential elections on July 28.

“Colombia expresses its concern regarding the recent events that occurred on the occasion of the registration of some presidential candidacies, particularly in relation to the difficulties faced by majority opposition sectors such as the PUD and the Vente Venezuela Movement, among others,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Venezuelan regime, allied with those of Brazil and Colombia, expressed its rejection of these positions.

The CNE confirmed on Tuesday the final list of candidates for the presidential elections next July, which includes the name of Eduardo González Urrutia as a candidate for the Democratic Unity Roundtable, absorbed by the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD).

The Democratic Unitary Platform, made up of the country’s main opposition leaders, chose Machado in primaries as its candidate to challenge Maduro for the Presidency of Venezuela in the upcoming July elections.

However, Machado was disqualified by Justice for a period of fifteen years.
