Maria Corina Machado says there is an “amazing” participation in the elections

Caracas, Jul 28 (EFE).- Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado said that participation in the presidential elections, which are being held this Sunday in the country, is «apotheotic»while highlighting the organization of the citizens, who have gone to their voting centers early.

“We have seen how the centers are full of people (…) in all the centers of the country what we are seeing is an overwhelming participation and I feel very proud of being Venezuelan and of these generations of ours that, on a day like today, overcoming each and every obstacle, are making a dream come true,” declared Machado, after voting.

The former deputy indicated that There were incidents in only 1,300 voting tablesof the 30,026 installed, at the beginning of the election day but, he continued, they have been resolved by what Only 12 remain with “some problems.”

He complained that there are polling stations that ask for the “scanning” of the identity card, a requirement that is not contemplated in the legislation, so he asked that this be eliminated as a procedure and that the voting process be expedited.

Machado stressed that these reports of incidents during the day have been exceptions, since, he said, the voting process has developed peacefully.

“I also want to acknowledge that, so far, the behavior of the Plan República (of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces), as we expected, complies with that mandate that military citizens have in article 328 of the Constitution,” he added, referring to the fact that the military institution is “professional, without political militancy.”

In this regard, the presidential candidate of the majority opposition – the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) -, Edmundo González Urrutia, said he is confident that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces “will ensure respect” for the results of the elections.

The former ambassador, who assured that more than 99% of the electoral centers are operating normally, asked Venezuelans to verify any information related to the process because, he warned, “rumor professionals are very active in trying to confuse the people.”

More than 21 million people are called to vote in these elections, who will be able to choose between 10 candidates, including González Urrutia and the president, Nicolás Maduro.
