Maria Corina Machado says that the new president-elect is Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia

We have a new president and his name is Edmundo González Urrutia”were the first words of María Corina Machado. The opposition leader proclaimed on Monday that the “new president-elect” of Venezuela is former ambassador Edmundo González Urrutia, despite the fact that the National Electoral Council (CNE) previously announced the victory of Nicolás Maduro in the elections held on July 28.

Venezuela has a new president-elect and it is Edmundo González Urrutia. We won and everyone knows it“, the former deputy told reporters, accompanied by the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD).

Machado, the main supporter of the former ambassador who is running for the presidency, said that they have more than 40% of the records transmitted by the electoral body, according to which González Urrutia obtained 70% of the votes, while Maduro – she indicated – 30%.

«This is the truth and it is, my dear Venezuelans, the presidential election with the largest margin of victory in history. Congratulations, Edmundo!“said the leader, who assured that the opposition “defeated” the government “throughout Venezuela.”

The opposition leader assured that in the coming days “actions will be announced to defend the truth” and “respect for popular sovereignty” that this Sunday “was expressed and elected” González Urrutia, she stressed.

According to the first report from the CNE, Maduro was re-elected for a third consecutive term this Sunday, in an election in which he obtained 51.2% of the votes (5,150,092 votes), while the standard-bearer of the majority opposition, Edmundo González Urrutia, obtained 4,445,978 votes, which represents 44.2% of the votes.

Leopoldo Lopez denounces fraud

Exiled Venezuelan politician Leopoldo López denounced “fraud” after the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced that with 80% of the votes counted, President Nicolás Maduro was re-elected for a third term with 51.20% of the votes (5,150,092 votes) in the elections held this Sunday.

«CNE announces a FRAUD and all of Venezuela knows it. This fraud is not sustainable“, the Venezuelan opposition member wrote on his X account.

According to the first report, the candidate of the majority opposition, Edmundo González Urrutia, obtained 4,445,978 votes, which represents 44.2% of the votes.

Before announcing the results, the president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso, said that the data transmission system suffered an attack, which will be investigated, which is why – he explained – the announcement of the winner took longer than expected, although he did not give further details on the matter.
