Maria Corina Machado explains what “charging” means for the opposition

Opposition leader María Corina Machado explained this Saturday at a rally in Caracas the slogan “to collect” that she has repeated since the start of the campaign of candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.

According to the leader, “to collect” means that “the world and everyone in Venezuela recognize that the president-elect of Venezuela is Edmundo González Urrutia.”

Machado emphasized that “the people’s decision is respected.”

This Saturday, August 17, supporters inside and outside the country gathered at different points to support the leader and the opposition candidate.

The opposition leadership claims that González Urrutia was the winner of the elections held on July 28, according to a set of minutes published on a website that is under investigation by the Venezuelan Public Prosecutor’s Office.

However, the results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE) reflected that the winner of the contest was the current president Nicolás Maduro.

While the opposition candidate Edmundo González managed to obtain 5,326,104 votes (43.18%).

The TSJ’s ruling on the election results is expected

In light of the controversy, several countries and multilateral organizations have requested that the CNE publish the corresponding electoral records.

For his part, Nicolás Maduro filed a contentious appeal before the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), which was admitted and the political organizations and the CNE itself were asked for the minutes they had in their possession.

In response to the corresponding summons, candidate Edmundo González Urrutia refused to present the minutes that were published on the website, giving rise to the formal initiation of the expert appraisal by the TSJ without said documentation.

The process is being carried out by the Electoral Chamber, which will be responsible for issuing a ruling determining the veracity of the documents and the result issued by the CNE.
