Maria Corina Machado denounces persecution of Nicolas Maduro

In the same text, María Corina Machado denounced the repression and persecution by the regime following dozens of citizen protests against the reelection of Nicolás Maduro.

“Following this farce, spontaneous protests broke out, especially in poor areas of Caracas and other cities. Maduro responded with brutal repression,” he said.

In his article he points out that so far 20 Venezuelans have been killed by security forces, a thousand have been imprisoned and 11 have been forced to disappear.

Last Tuesday, the Attorney General of Venezuela confirmed that 749 people were arrested during the protests, while the local humanitarian organization Foro Penal reported 11 deaths and 177 arrests.

“The repression must cease immediately, so that an urgent agreement can be reached to facilitate the transition to democracy,” wrote Maria Corina.
