After the Carinthian had been infiltrated last week due to problems with his intervertebral discs and had not improved despite additional therapy, the 29-year-old decided to undergo surgery after consulting his doctor and his trainers.
“After conservative treatment did not bring the desired improvement, an operation was unavoidable. The operation went very well and was uncomplicated and we assume that the problem will heal without any consequences,” said Michael Gabl, the surgeon.
“No way around”
Schwarz, who tore knee ligaments in December 2023, will not be able to return to training for about eight weeks and is taking on this challenge: “Unfortunately, the situation worsened so much at the beginning of the week that there was no way around the operation,” explained the all-rounder. “Of course it’s hard to be set back a few weeks now, but it was definitely the right decision.”
The World Cup season traditionally begins on October 26/27 in Sölden with a giant slalom for women and men.
