Reus Secures First Ever Championship Title with LA Galaxy
Marco Reus finally achieved his long-sought dream of a championship, landing his first title with the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Major League Soccer (MLS) final on Saturday. At age 35, Reus, who plays(ed) for the German national team. But, his initial experience with Galaxy was a disrupted one. Reus witnessed An early 2-0 lead from the sidelines in Saturday’s final as LA dominated thanks to Joseph Paintsil in the 9th minute and former Frankfurt player Dejan Joveljic in the 13th. New York’s Sean Nealls managed to narrow the gap with a goal in the 28th minute.

Despite a flurry of substitutions in the second half, bringing in five fresh players for New York
it couldn’t prevent the record champion from California from clinching their sixth title and their first since 2014.
A Bittersweet Victory
The Galaxy’s win was especially meaningful for Reus. Throughout his career, a championship title had always remained elusive.
A loss would have been particularly bitter for Reus. Not having secured a national championship was a notable gap in his otherwise impressive career undisturbed by seven runner-up titles with Borussia Dortmund.
His former club BVB last won a trophy in 2012 under coach Jürgen Klopp,
just before Reus returned to his youth club from Mönchengladbach.
Lots Of Missed Tournaments
Unfortunately, Reus also missed several crucial tournaments due to injury, including the World Championships in 2014 and 2022 and European Championships in 2016 and 2021. This year, he heartbreakingly lost out on his first championship title with Dortmund on the very last day of the Bundesliga season.
Reus joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer after his contract with Borussia Dortmund
concluded. He signed a contract with Galaxy for two and a half years, committing to the team until the end of 2026.
In the MLS, the season concludes with the calendar year.

**[Reus]:** It’s truly an incredible feeling! [Referring to [[1](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c5y5r4j0kjdo)]I came to LA Galaxy with the goal of bringing a championship back to this club, and to finally achieve that at 35 years old is beyond special.
**[Host]:** The road to the final wasn’t easy. You had to overcome an adductor injury in the conference final. Were there any doubts in your mind about being able to contribute in the final match?
**[Reus]:** There were definitely some anxious moments. No player wants to be sidelined, especially during such a crucial moment. But, I trusted the coaching staff and focused on my recovery. Coach Vanney showed great faith in me by bringing me on as a late substitute.
**[Host]:** The Galaxy dominated early, with two quick goals from Paintsil and Joveljic. From the sidelines, could you feel the momentum shifting towards LA?
**[Reus]:** Absolutely! The team was playing with such energy and determination. It was an amazing feeling to witness that from the bench, and I wanted nothing more than to get out there and contribute to the team’s success.
**[Host]:** We saw you come on in the later stages. Did you feel a sense of responsibility to help maintain that lead and secure the victory?
**[Reus]:** Of course! Every minute on the pitch is precious, especially in a final. I wanted to bring my experience and composure to the team, and help see us over the finish line.
